2020 Census: Who's Fleeing Whom?

Nearly ten years ago, after the 2010 U.S. Census results came out, we did a deep-dive into the shifting ethnic make-up of America's cities.

Delayed due to Covid, the 2020 Census numbers are finally out. So here’s our ‘Who’s Fleeing Whom?’ series, updated for 2020.

Why did we write this piece? Though black criminality in North America has always surpassed that of Euros, separating oneself from Afro neighbors was not difficult for the first 350 years of British North America / the United States.  Even in the North, segregation in housing was permitted de facto where it was not de jure.

The 'Great Migration,' waves of Afros moving from the South to the North, began in earnest in 1910, with its second wave after WWII (1945).

However, the flight of Euro-Americans out of the cities did not truly begin until Blacks were free to live where they pleased-- the 1960s.  Since then, a sort of merry-go-round has ensued:  Whites, suffering under Afro dysfunction, flee to suburbs, only to be pursued by the Talented Tenth fleeing same.  The latter are followed, as night follows day, by the Untalented Nine-Tenths, who promptly re-create the urban chaos they left behind. Euro-Americans are forced to pack up, and the musical chairs begin again.

We can in fact watch the flight unfold before our eyes via U.S. Census numbers.

1910: Before the Great Migration got underway: Our first figures (where available).

1960: Just before the end of Segregation.

1980: Fast-forward twenty years to see what the first wave of 'White Flight' has wrought.

2020: Finally, the most recent figures. Enter en masse Hispanics, who did not even exist as a census category two generations ago, and Asians, who have flooded in recently.

So, one-fifth of the way into our new century : Who's fleeing whom?

Unvetted Afghans: A Bitter Harvest

America has finally bit the bullet and left Afghanistan, the ‘graveyard of empires’, after 20 years of failed nation-building. The airport in Kabul has been swarmed with Afghans trying to flee the country ahead of the Taliban’s hardline Islamist takeover.

Thousands of Afghan nationals have helped the occupier these last 20 years and thus have targets on their backs. Collaborators have in all times and places suffered the same fate: public humiliation, prison, or death.

We are told we must immediately airlift these innocents to the U.S., as well as their families, and while we’re at it, any Afghan who’d like to hop on a military jet for a one-way trip through our golden door.

From the New York Times:

There is no time for bureaucracy. The U.S. is now planning to take Afghans who are awaiting visas to third countries or U.S. military bases, but according to Varghese, it’s not clear what criteria will be used for vetting them. They should be as liberal as possible. We should not be consigning people to execution for lack of paperwork.

And, of course, we should bring as many as possible here. Canada, which is about one-ninth the size of the United States, has announced its intention to take more than 20,000 fleeing Afghans. There is no way to justify America accepting fewer on a per capita basis; 180,000 should be the absolute floor.

Ms. Goldberg seems to have forgotten we’ve been here before.

In 2015, as ISIS marched through Syria and Iraq sending millions fleeing, Angela Merkel threw open the doors of Europe. She promised no vetting: The Million Muslim March was on.

The entire global south was told it was ‘open bar’ in Europe, and they rolled in from Morocco to Uganda to Bangladesh. (We chronicled it in detail at the time.)

Afghanistan, caught in a slow-boil civil war between the U.S.’s puppet government and the Taliban, also sent their share of desperate refugees ‘looking for a better life.’ Floating over on dinghies, with no vetting whatsoever, these young men poured into every corner of Western Europe, who welcomed them with open arms.

How did they thank their rescuers? We’re glad you asked.

They thanked them by committing a dizzying array of crimes; against the old, the young, the well-armed, the defenseless, from theft to rape to battery to murder, from teeming cities to tiny village hamlets.

The round-up below is just the tip of the iceberg. These are articles we have stumbled upon and saved in the years since Merkel’s ‘Million Muslim March’ into Europe began. A targeted search would no doubt turn up many hundreds more.

Are there any lessons for U.S. decision-makers here?

Tour d’horizon…

The Black Call for Separation

The death in police custody last year of a violent felon whose heart stopped while resisting arrest led to the worst rioting in U.S. history.

It has also led to much soul-searching, as Blacks in America wonder if they can continue to live side-by-side with Whites.

There is increasing evidence that Afro-Americans are simply not comfortable bending to the strictures and customs enforced by Euro-Americans. They feel pushed aside, hemmed in, and held down.

So, despite fighting for centuries to have equal access to white spaces, today more and more black voices are rising to call for racial separation.

What is the evidence for this surprising phenomenon? To what could it lead?

Who Is Fleeing Whom?

Nearly ten years ago, after the 2010 U.S. Census results came out, we did a deep-dive into the shifts in ethnic make-up of America's cities.

At this moment, the full 2020 Census figures are being crunched. As soon as they are out, we shall update this piece to reflect the new face of these metropolises, some of which we suspect will have changed radically in the last ten years.

As we wait for the new numbers, let's revisit the data up until 2010... and predict what changes are about to be revealed.

*     *     *

The latter are followed, as night follows day,  by the Untalented Nine-Tenths, who promptly re-create the urban hellscapes they left behind. Euro-Americans are forced to pack up, and the musical chairs begin again.  Section 8 vouchers have revved this carousel up to warp speed.

We can in fact watch the flight unfold before our eyes via U.S. Census numbers.

We give the figures from 1960, just before Segregation ended.

We then fast-forward twenty years to 1980 to see what the first wave of 'White Flight' has wrought.

Finally, we give the most recent figures (2010), which contain some surprises, especially re: Hispanics, who did not even exist as a census category two generations ago.

For selected cities, we have also given the figures from 1910, before the Great Migration got underway.  Asians have been included where their historic presence has been strongest.

So: Who's fleeing whom?

 1. The Midwest

We start with the Midwest, industrial center and destination of choice for the Great Migrators:

Hunting Asians for Sport: A Trans-Atlantic Tale

In an age more and more prone to mass hysterias, a new one is sweeping the U.S.: That East Asian immigrants are being violently attacked en masse by white supremacists.

From John Derbyshire:

The message we’re getting here from the Gods of the Market Place is, that because the sinister, evil Donald Trump told us that Covid-19 was a Chinese virus, his followers—who are, of course, all gap-toothed white supremacist persecutors of nonwhites—have been attacking anyone who looks Asian: sucker-punching them, shoving them under subway trains, and so on.

... But then, just as I was rolling my eyes and scoffing, along came a Great White Defendant, who for a moment looked as if he might rescue the Narrative. This was 21-year-old Robert Aaron Long, a white man from Georgia, who shot nine people at three massage parlors in Atlanta Tuesday night. Eight of the nine died, the ninth is in hospital, seriously injured but stable.

A Southern Baptist who watched porn all day and was in therapy for ‘sex addiction,’ Long had just been kicked out of his parents’ house. This caused him to snap, buy a pistol and go kill the ‘source of his temptation'--workers at the Asian sex trafficking parlors he'd frequented.

Steve Sailer has been following this moral panic closely. He quotes the New York Times’ “particularly shameless work of fake news”:

Confronting Violence Against Asians, Biden Says That ‘We Cannot Be Complicit’

The vice president offered little doubt about what she believed and whom she blamed for stoking the violence, alluding to — without directly naming — former President Donald J. Trump, who repeatedly blamed the pandemic on what he called the “China virus.”

“For the last year, we’ve had people in positions of incredible power scapegoating Asian-Americans,” she said. “People with the biggest pulpits spreading this kind of hate.”

…Anti-Asian attacks have soared during the past year, part of a pattern that Mr. Biden called “wrong” and “un-American” last week during a speech at the White House.

What, you may wonder, does a whore-monger murdering the Korean objects of his lust have to do with Donald Trump pointing out that the Wuhan Flu is Chinese? As it turns out, Trump’s words have pushed scores of Americans—mainly black ones, whom we know are his biggest voting bloc--over the edge into violence. On the West Coast:

In January, a local television station showed footage of a young man sprinting toward, then violently shoving to the ground, a man identified as Vicha Ratanapakdee, 84, who had been out for a morning walk in the Anza Vista neighborhood of San Francisco. He later died.

Another video shows a 91-year-old man in Oakland’s Chinatown neighborhood being pushed facedown into the sidewalk cement from behind in an apparently unprovoked attack.

 On the East Coast:

Asian Woman Leaving Asian-Black Solidarity Rally Gets Punched (by a Black Man)

Later Sunday on the Lower East Side, police sources say a 54-year-old woman was smashed in the face with a metal pipe by a man who allegedly shouted an anti-Asian slur.

… Police are also looking for another man in connection to a similar crime. They say he yelled and punched a 66-year-old Asian man in the face on Allen Street on the Lower East Side on Saturday at around 9 a.m.

... Police arrested 36-year-old Marc Mathieu over the weekend, charging him with assault as a hate crime for a subway attack Friday afternoon. He allegedly punched a 68-year-old Asian man on the 1 train.

Blacks violently attacking Asians, which is an everyday occurrence in this country (as is Blacks attacking Whites, Hispanics, and each other), is suddenly being painted as Trump-inspired bigotry.

But it's tricky to make surveillance footage lie.

The victims:

 The perpetrators:

But these are just anecdotes, after all. Surely the data show that Whites are indeed mowing down Asians left, right, and center?

From Andrew Sullivan, via Steve Sailer:

But what about hate crimes specifically? In general, the group disproportionately most likely to commit hate crimes in the US are African-Americans. At 13% of the population, African Americans commit 24% of hate crimes.

But hate specifically against Asian-Americans in the era of Trump and Covid? … The best data I’ve found for 2020, the salient period for this discussion, are provisional data on complaints and arrests for hate crimes against Asians in New York City, one of two cities which seem to have been most affected. They record 20 such arrests in 2020. Of those 20 offenders, 11 were Black, 7 Hispanic, and 2 White.

As far as Black-on-Asian versus Asian-on-Black crime:

In 2018’s Table 14, the BJS broke out the black vs. Asian offending rates. According to inadequate sample sizes, blacks aggressed against Asians 50,000 times vs. a little over 500 times that Asians attacked blacks, for an 89 to 1 racial ratio of total incidents. Because there are almost twice as many blacks as Asians, on a per capita footing that would be 46 to 1.

The data unequivocally show, then, that Asians are being massively victimized by Blacks. And yet certain members of the community are in complete denial of this fact:

When Ariel Hsu saw a graphic video last week of an Asian American senior citizen in San Francisco being pushed to the ground and the growing social media response around it, she said she was concerned — about both the victim and the outcry.

Hsu, a chapter leader at the National Asian American Pacific American Women’s Forum, said that given that the suspect in the incident is Black, many in the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community, including herself, were concerned about anti-Black sentiment that appeared to be present in some of the online calls for justice.

For organizers like Hsu, seeing the actor Daniel Dae Kim offer a $25,000 reward for information on the suspect felt like a “bounty,” she said, and the increased calls for more police presence seemed like a backwards step.

“If addressing violence against Asian Americans entails furthering stereotypes about Black criminality and the policies associated with those stereotypes … we’ve misdiagnosed the problem,” said Janelle Wong, a professor of Asian American studies at the University of Maryland.

Is it denial, or a conscious effort to ape the current anti-white zeitgeist?

Hard to say. But this complex dynamic of Black violence, Asian victims, and White scapegoats… does it have parallels anywhere else in the world?

In fact, yes. There is a strikingly similar phenomenon at work in France. An indigenous white majority, a melanated predator class (mainly Arab, a bit black), and an East Asian minority of easy targets. Join us for a tour d'horizon...

Hong Kong Flu vs. Covid: Descent into Hysteria

[We’re working on our next big piece; today's is in response to a reader request.]

Any of our ancestors who lived through the Spanish Flu would have likely qualified the worldwide reaction to Covid-19 last year  as a ‘mass hysteria.’

The 1918-19 pandemic touched one third of humanity and felled millions in the prime of their life—its peak mortality age was 28.

CoronaVirus Disease 2019, a.k.a Covid 19, however, is its mirror image: it kills almost exclusively the very old or the very obese. Yet due to this virus whose under-70 fatality rate is .05% (that’s one-twentieth of one percent),  the entire Western world simply shut down its societies wholesale.

Not only cinemas and stadiums, but shops, schools, factories, construction sites: all shuttered. In France, one could no longer volunteer at an animal shelter or give blood. All non-GPs—dentists, gynecologists, dermatologists—were forced to close. Courts ceased to function. Airports shut down. Parliament went virtual.

Piazza del Duomo, Milan, 2020

No one had seen anything like it in the whole of human history--not even in wartime.

One may look back at our forebears in 1918 with awe: The young people who managed to avoid being massacred in the grisliest war in human history then dropped like flies in the ensuing worldwide pandemic, whilst the older generation survived unscathed. Has humanity ever seen such an immense killing field of its youngest and strongest in such a short span of time?

And yet the world still turned. While large public gatherings were discouraged, the word ‘lockdown’ was never pronounced or even imagined. Farming, factories, trade, construction, commerce all buzzed along as they always had. Schools and hair salons and parks remained open. The hecatomb of the Spanish Flu is barely remembered today.

‘Indeed,’ you may argue, ‘but of course one has to go back a hundred years to find a people hardy enough to weather a viral pandemic with equanimity.’

As it happens, one does not.

While Covid raged throughout 2020, curious French researchers snuck a peek into the medical archives. They were astonished at what they found: Only 50 years ago, in 1969, a Covid-like flu had swept through the Western world-- but in newspapers of the time it barely merited a mention. There was no state of emergency, no daily death count, no mass shutdowns.

No panic.

The gravity of the enigmatic ‘Hong Kong Flu’ had entirely escaped French historians because at the time, no statistical agency (of which France had many) thought to tally up its deaths. It took until 2005 and researchers inspired by SARS for the French authorities to even remember that there had been an epidemic in 1969.

Covid re-awakened our taste for all things pandemical, and last year led historians to fine-tune the numbers even more.

That’s when they realized that at 2020 population levels, the Hong Kong Flu would have been nearly as deadly as Covid-19.

So how could the outcome of such a virus have gone from ‘blip on the radar’ to ‘planet-wide pants-soiling’ in the space of just fifty short years? A French documentary crew from LCP  News Channel aimed to find out.

We share their discoveries with you here.

So take a walk with us down memory lane, to a time, within living memory, when an epidemic virus could tear through a first-world country and earn barely a shrug in response. Visit the less-feminized world of our recent forebears, and marvel at how our society has in the space of two generations become hystericized to the point of total paralysis.

Accompagnez-nous into another world.
